Q&A with Broken Arrow’s Matthew Martin – Presented by Josh Moore – Shelter Insurance

VYPE: What has your sport taught you that you use in your daily life?

Matt Martin: No matter how steep the hill gets; you just have to keep climbing.

VYPE: What is your favorite part about being on a team?

MM: My favorite part about being on a team is the community and friendships I have built with my fellow athletes and the memories we will always share.

VYPE: Why are you passionate about your sport?

MM: I am passionate about running because I love the feeling of setting a new PR [personal record] after so many hours of training.

VYPE: Who is your favorite teacher from any grade and why?

MM: My favorite teacher of all time is Ms. York. Despite the fact that English is my least favorite class, she still managed to keep me engaged and wanting to learn more throughout the year.

VYPE: Who inspires you and why?

MM: My biggest inspiration is my grandad. He has left me with many stories, inspirational quotes, and amazing memories.

VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why?

MM: My friend Josiah Pickup has left the biggest impression on me. Whether by pushing me through those long workouts or just being there to talk to on those hot, long runs.

VYPE: What is your favorite part about representing your high school as an athlete?

MM: I am coming from a school that has historically not been known for being good at cross country. Having the chance to start a legacy for my school is amazing.

VYPE: What is your favorite memory and/or accomplishment of your sport?

MM: My best accomplishment is running at a state cross country meet as only a sophomore.

VYPE: What is the best advice that anyone has given you?

MM: The best advice I have been given is that you will always have to work for the things you love.
