Broken Arrow’s Javen Divine – Baseball Spotlight – Presented by RainTech Roofing

Broken Arrow’s Javen Divine

Broken Arrow junior infielder Javen Divine has learned that baseball, like life, is a game of response. A steady presence at second base and shortstop for the Tigers, Divine has already packed his career with big moments, but nothing tops last season’s postseason run. “I am most proud of winning regionals and making it to the state tournament,” he said.

Those experiences sharpened his perspective on the sport’s ups and downs. “Baseball has taught me how to handle failure and that overall has made me a better person,” Divine said. That mindset shows up in his day-to-day approach, from practice reps to pressure at-bats, where he leans on lessons about resilience and composure.

Divine points to a strong support system that has shaped who he is on and off the field. He credits his middle school teacher, Coach Griffin, for setting a standard of consistency and kindness. “She was always so supportive and happy every day and treated all the kids the same,” Divine said. At home, his brother, Breydon, pushes him to chase higher goals. “He pushed me to be a better baseball player and helps me grow in the person I am,” Divine said.

Inside the Broken Arrow dugout, Divine is quick to highlight others. He points to teammate Matthew Westbrook as a model of how to compete. Divine describes Westbrook as “an overachiever and such a hard worker,” calling him “a great pitcher” who plays the game with grit. Representing Broken Arrow, Divine said, means playing for something larger than himself. “I know I’m playing for more than myself. I’m playing as a team and everyone who supports us,” he said.

He tries to anchor himself in simple, trusted advice: control what you can control. In a sport where umpires’ calls and opposing pitchers are unpredictable, Divine focuses on his own at-bat and effort. He also credits his coaches for investing time and energy into the team, thanking them for helping the Tigers grow “as better players and people” through the game they love. Divine looks up to Atlanta Braves star Ronald Acuña Jr. for his talent, work ethic, humility and the energy he brings to a clubhouse, traits Divine hopes to mirror in Broken Arrow’s colors.
