Broken Arrow’s Aiden Hickey – FFA Spotlight
Aiden Hickey, a senior at Broken Arrow High School, is an active member of the FFA, involved in meat judging, cattle grading, wildlife, environmental science, and AG mechanics. Hickey’s dedication to the various subjects comes from simply pursuing interests and not being afraid to try something new.
“What made me want to initially join FFA was my freshman year of shop class because we got to learn how to weld and use a variety of shop equipment and I found it fascinating,” said Hickey. “In my sophomore year, we got Mrs. Dupree and when she started teaching I realized I hadn’t even scratched the surface when it comes to FFA. Over time she helped push me to try a wide variety of CDEs (career development events) and from that moment on FFA became a huge part of my high school career and even life.”
To give credit where credit is due, Mrs. Dupree is definitely a role model in Hickey’s life, because of her encouragement in competition and in the classroom.
“Another huge role model is my Dad,” said Hickey. “He has always been by my side pushing me to do my best and persevere no matter how hard things in life may get. Growing up he has also taught me the value of hard work and that when you put your mind to something, anything that you may take on in life is achievable.”
Hickey enjoys being able to represent Broken Arrow in competition and aims to make those around him proud. As his final year of high school begins, he will cherish the time with friends and opportunities to learn new things along the way.
