Bringing the Team Spirit with Mia Nanita – Presented by Los Vaqueros

Mia Nanita is a junior at Broken Arrow High School and a cheerleader for the Tigers. She is competitive by nature, which is what got her interested in the sport initially four years ago. She is up for the challenge of competing against anyone, as long as she can represent her team well.

“I do not necessarily have a favorite opponent, I just enjoy competing in general,” she said. “What motivates me is to make my teammates and coaches proud and have success.”

Nanita’s favorite memory in her sport so far was a big one – competing at the Game Day state championship, where the Tigers cheer squad went home with gold. Even more valuable than the title to Nanita is, in her words, “the friendships and bonds you create with your team.”

Nanita admires her team captains in particular because of the expectations they set for the team and how they push their teammates to succeed. Character is something Nanita strives for as well, on and off the mat.

“Character is very important to me because it shapes how I handle failure and success,” she said. “A good character is crucial to the team in maintaining sportsmanship, respect, and kindness.”

Cheer keeps Nanita busy as a year-long sport, but she does find the time to be involved in a few things around campus, such as leadership and eco friends. After high school her plans are to continue her education at a college somewhere not too far from home.
