Broken Arrow Tigers Softball Preview – Presented by Security Bank

BROKEN ARROW TIGERS

Coach: RANDALL KING

31-5

OUTLOOK

One year ago, the Tigers were playing for a spot in the 6A state championship game. With several players returning and young talent establishing itself, Broken Arrow could be on the cusp of another successful fall. “[We’re] looking forward to a great season,” said head coach Randall King. “We will have a good combination of experience as well as some good young players. The key will be team chemistry as well as some of the young players stepping up.” Emily Evans (Sr.) will anchor the Tigers’ defense at shortstop. She hit .430 with 41 runs last season and committed to continue her softball career at Division I Missouri State in September. First and foremost, she provides a mature presence in the infield. “Emily is a leader. She is always communicating situations and encouraging her teammates. She has been at the top of our order for the last three years,” King said. Catcher and second baseman Taylor Clay (Sr.) hit .505 with 45 runs and will be similarly crucial to Broken Arrow’s success. “Taylor Clay is also a player that deserves some recognition. She has also been at the top of our order for three years,” King said. “These two players have been a big part of our success the last few years.” Returning ace Cali Lieurance lost only one game in 17 starts last year and posted a 1.6 ERA. “Cali Lieurance also had a lot of success last year going 16-1 on the mound for the year. Hannah Jones (Sr.) gives us a good 1-2 combination on the mound as she went 9-4,” King said. Big hitter Kenya Harp (Jr.) went .324 with five home runs and 26 RBI as a sophomore. She’ll lock down the outfield along with Emily Gilleland (Jr.), who hit .316 with 16 runs as a sophomore. Addison Jones (Sr.), a Barton CC commit, was a highly anticipated returner until an injury sidelined her for this fast pitch season. Still, her presence in the dugout cannot be understated. “She actually tore her ACL the last game of slow pitch season and will not be able to play this season, but she will still be an important part of our team,” King said. “She started at first base for us most of last season.” Players like Makyla Boulware (Sr.), a talented infielder, provide the team’s heartbeat. “Makyla is always willing to do whatever is asked of her. She encourages other players and is an extremely hard worker,” King said.
