The No. 5 ranked volleyball team in Class 6A is the Broken Arrow Tigers. One of their starters, Lauren Harms, is a senior, a four-year starter and an outside hitter.
Harms said being a student-athlete at BAHS is great because of the people.
“BAHS is a great place to be a student-athlete because of how inclusive the school is. The athletics at the school are very welcoming and everyone is supportive of each other,” said Harms.
Growing up, volleyball has always been her favorite sport.
“I grew up watching my cousin play at a D1 college and wanted to play like her. Volleyball has been the only sport I have ever done. The thing I have enjoyed most about being on volleyball is the mental growth that I’ve gained from the sport. I’ve learned how to deal with high-stress situations along with managing sports and academics. I also enjoyed all the friendships I have made along the way,” said Harms.
The senior is quick to point to her teammates and their roles on the team.
“A couple people you should keep your eye on this season is Avery Jones and Maddie Terilli, they are both such upbeat and fun players. Avery is a great libero and Maddie is super expressive setter and right side,” said Harms. “The thing I love most about this group of girls is how comfortable we are with each other. Everyone is able to be open and express their difficulties without judgement.”
For Harms, this season is full of memorable moments. One stands out for Harms.
“So far, my favorite moment of this season was when we beat Edmond Memorial at our own BA tournament. The true colors of what this team could be really shined through, and it was a great experience,” said Harms.
Harms is a member of National Honor Society, and she said her favorite subject in school is
math.
“My favorite subject in school is math, and my favorite teacher is Mrs. Wilson. I have had her for pre calc/trig and Calc AB, she makes it easy to understand and she’s so sweet,” said Harms.
The senior said she wants the Class of 2024 to be remembered for being ambitious and
generous.
