Broken Arrow sophomore catcher Lily Blaylock is already becoming one of the voices of the Tigers’ softball program, but she says her biggest influence comes from home. Her family, she says, is the reason she plays with so much energy, joy and resilience.
“My family. They always have my back in every situation,” Blaylock said. “No matter what goals I set, they encourage me physically, emotionally and spiritually to keep pushing forward. Their support gives me the strength to chase my dreams.”
On the field, Blaylock embraces the challenge of handling the game from behind the plate. She knows the catcher is expected to lead, communicate and take criticism in the heat of competition.
“Taking the criticism of leading a team is the most difficult thing about playing catcher,” she said. “But it’s also what makes the position so important and rewarding — to be the eyes of the field and help our team be successful.”
Blaylock said the Tigers’ identity starts with hustle and the way they feed off each other’s energy. She loves the trust they have built and how they respond when things get tough.
“Our trust and energy we bring to the field, staying positive through challenges and celebrating each other’s successes, that’s what I love most about this team,” Blaylock said.
Her favorite unwritten rule in softball is simple: “Play hard, stay humble and respect your teammates and opponents.” It is a standard she tries to live by in every inning.
At the plate, Blaylock keeps her approach straightforward. She focuses on locking in and making solid contact, relying on preparation and confidence.
Away from softball, Blaylock enjoys crafts and spending time with family and friends. She lists history teacher Mr. Gilbert as her favorite in the classroom and says teammate Aryanna “Ary” Ceasar keeps everyone laughing, while Blaylock admits she is one of the most vocal players on the team.
