Now that the new season is underway, the field of wrestler teams competing for the immortality of being state champions is starting to come into frame. Broken Arrow head coach Rodney Jones is no stranger to high expectations. In fact, he embraces them and so do his wrestlers.
“Expectations are always high at Broken Arrow. The program has won 20 State Championships since 1998 but the last one was in 2020. Class 6A Oklahoma wrestling once again this year will be very strong. Broken Arrow finished behind three Nationally ranked teams last year (Stillwater, Edmond North, and Bixby.) All three of these teams plus several others return very competitive teams so we will have our work cut out for us this year as we look to put ourselves back up toward the top with the state’s elite programs,” said Jones.’
One wrestler looking to battle his way to the podium is Waylen Morrison. Morrison has fought through injuries and has continued to work hard. This could be his best season on record.
Jake Miller is an underclassman coach Jones is excited to have in the wrestling room. Along with guys like Garrett Stinchcomb, Braden Jones, and Evan Rodriguez, the Tigers have the building blocks for another solid season.
According to Owrestle.com the Tigers have several ranked wrestlers taking the mat. That list includes Hunter Knox at 106-pounds, Hudson Beckley at 113-pounds, Rodriguez at 120-pounds, Miller at 132-pounds, Kadence Roop at 144-pounds, Stinchcomb at 150-pounds, Jones at 165 pounds, and Gunner Wilson at 215-pounds.
