BROKEN ARROW LADY TIGERS
GIRLS
Coach: Shane Coffey
22-23 Record: 18-9
Starting his third season at the helm of the Lady Tigers basketball program, head coach Shane Coffey has every reason to be excited coming into the season. “After getting a taste of the state tournament with an inexperienced team last season, they are hungry for more this year. Our team had a great offseason and summer with player development and strength, and that hunger hasn’t stopped since getting back to school. We have several key players back with a solid addition of players that will help our depth this season,” said Coffey. With so many solid players, it’s tough to know where to start. One prolific scorer is McKenzie Mathurin (5-10, Jr.) at guard/forward. Mathurin averaged 20.9 points with 5.4 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game. Baller numbers no doubt. Mathurin is currently ranked 58th in the country by ESPN. Rekiah Bowen (5-11, Jr.) averaged 17 points and 9.0 rebounds as a sophomore with 5.0 assists and 4.0 steals on the defensive end of the court. Macy Marriccini (5-5, Jr.) will start at point guard where she is averaged 8.9 points, 4.4 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 2.0 steals a game last year. Marriccini is tough to contain. Taryn Jacobs (6-0, Jr.) is a forward who, according to coach Coffey, has enjoyed a great offseason and is physically stronger than her opponents will remember. Jacobs averaged 4.1 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.0 assist last year, but those numbers could easily increase this season. Also look for Brooklynn Smitherman (5-11, So.) and Peyton Dolan (5-8, Jr.) to find their way to the basket this season. Smitherman is a long, explosive player who could be the X-factor for the Lady Tigers this season. Other players to watch include Addison Price (5-5, Jr.), Lydia Pince (6-1, Sr.), Jacie Adson (5-8, Sr.), Jaeli Atchison (5-8, So.), Suriah Matthew (5-8, Fr.), and Janaya McCrary (5-4, Fr.). Assisting coach Coffey are coaches Juan Davis, Courtney Caughman, John Perkins, and Jimmie Walker.
