Broken Arrow High School junior Emily Evans plays shortstop for the Lady Tigers varsity softball team which has another 20-plus game winning season this year. Evans said she grew up playing other sports, but softball was the best fit for her.
“Growing up I tried out different sports, but they really didn’t fit me like softball does. I tried out for a team and made it and I decided this is what I was going to be playing for the rest of my life,” said Evans.
Evans said the team has worked hard to get where they are today.
“Every day when we have a game or practice, we all love being on the field together and playing the sport we love. We all push each other to be the best and we all have the same goal, to be a state champion,” Evans said. “My favorite memory of this season so far is when we were in the Broken Arrow tournament and we were playing Mustang, and we were both going back and forth scoring and we kept on going into extra innings and I was up to bat, and I hit a double to tie the game up. We ended up beating Mustang.”
As a student-athlete, Evans said BAHS is a great place to be a student.
“Broken Arrow is a great place to be because everyone is very welcome here, there’s a great education here, and our softball team is like family. My favorite subject is math. I’ve always like math through being in school and I just like how I have to be engaged with every problem. My favorite teacher is coach Buckmaster, he was my seventh-grade geography teacher, and he knew what he explained everything well and we had fun in class while learning at the same time,” said Evans.
After graduating, Evans would like to attend college and major in sports medicine or sports management. Evans wants the Class of 2025 to be remembered for their work ethic.
“I want my class to be remembered for their hard work and the success we have had right now and in the past.”
