For Broken Arrow High School junior Avaree Beach, softball is more than a competition. It is a chance to contribute to a close-knit group of teammates while pursuing big goals on and off the field. Beach plays varsity fastpitch softball for the Lady Tigers, serving as both a pitcher and designated hitter. She enjoys the responsibility that comes with working in the circle.
“I pitch or DH. I like that the pitcher sets the tone for the game,” Beach said.
Her versatility also shows in her steady work at the plate and continued commitment to developing as a pitcher.
“My strength would be hitting has been something I do consistently and I’m always working on my pitching mechanics to be more dangerous on the mound,” Beach said.
That dedication helped Beach narrow her athletic focus. She previously participated in basketball and track but chose to devote her time and energy to softball.
“I used to play basketball and track but pitching takes a lot of dedication, so I chose to focus on softball only!” Beach said.
Beach values the relationships that come with being part of the Broken Arrow program. She sees her teammates as more than players she shares a field with.
“What I love most about my team and teammates at Broken Arrow is that they have become like family. We don’t just play ball together, but we do stuff off the field as well. We are all great friends!” Beach said.
She also appreciates the encouraging culture surrounding the Lady Tigers.
“What I enjoy most is that we are a sisterhood we cheer each other on and build each other up!” Beach said.
Away from softball, Beach describes herself as a social butterfly and enjoys spending time with different groups. Her parents remain central supporters of her athletic ambitions.
“My parents they give their all to help me chase my dreams. They are my biggest cheerleaders,” Beach said.
