VYPE: How did your season turn out and what were your goals?
Taylor: Our season turned out way better than anyone expected. If you were to ask anyone at the beginning, no one would have thought we would be state runner ups. The season began a little bumpy but we all came together and realized we all have the same goal, to win a state title. We got better and better statistically as a team as the year went on.
VYPE: What is the most fun you have had in the last year?
Taylor: The most fun I’ve had this last year with my team is the hotel at the Southmoore tournament. I think that is where the team started to connect more on a deeper level. We all bonded so well and even built a fort in one of our rooms.
VYPE: Who is your favorite teacher from any grade and why?
Taylor: My favorite teacher is my freshman year geometry teacher, Mrs Geiger. She was very invested into all of our lives and such a good person in and outside of the classroom. She pushed us to be our best and would always listen if we needed to talk.
VYPE: What is your favorite athletic memory?
Taylor: My favorite athletic memory is winning game 2 of state and realizing we actually are going to the state championship. I think so many doubted our team but we proved them all wrong by making it so far. We did come up one win short but I could not be more proud of my team.
VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why?
Taylor: The teammate that has left the biggest impression on me is Maddie Messenger. She has always been there for me on and off the field. She’s a good friend and better teammate. She taught me to be better as a person and pushed me when I couldn’t push myself.
VYPE: What is your favorite part about being on a team?
Taylor: My favorite thing about being on a team is getting to play with my friends. We grow so much as the years go on and get closer on and off of the field. If you can connect off the field you will be even better on the field. You have to have communication to be a great team and our team got better at that as the year went on.
VYPE: You can pick any place for a summer vacation, where do you go and who do you take with you?
Taylor: If I could go on vacation anywhere with anyone I would go to Bora Bora with Preslee Downing and Addi Drummond. They are my best friends and we always have a good time together no matter where we are.
VYPE: When and how did you first get into playing softball?
Taylor: I got into softball at six years old. Before, I did competitive cheer and I was really good at it, but I decided I didn’t want to do that anymore and I want to try something new. I got into t-ball. I had so much passion for it at the age of six. My passion for the game grows every day and I am so fortunate to be where I am today.
VYPE: Here is your chance to say hello, goodbye or thank you to anyone you wish.
Taylor: I just wanted to say thank you to my mom, Makenzie. She sacrifices so much so that I can do what I want to do and be where I want to be. I would not be where I am today without her. A thank you to my grandpa, Dave Mart for being my biggest fan. He will brag about me wherever he goes. I might not show it but I do appreciate it. A thank you to my grandma Lori. She always wants what’s best for me. She is one of my biggest supporters and always has been. A final thank you to my dad, Anthony, for keeping my head level. My dad is always there no matter what. He will always listen to me when I need to talk and I am so grateful for that.
