9 Questions with Broken Arrow’s Maicy Bules – Cheer Spotlight – Presented by Security Bank

Broken Arrow’s Maicy Bules

VYPE:Maicy, what grade are you in this year and when did you get your start in cheer?

Maicy Bules: I am a senior and I have been cheering since I was in the second grade.

VYPE: How has this season gone for you and the team?

MB: This season has gone so amazing for my team. We won Gameday State back in November and we went back-to-back in the Large Co-ed Gameday division at UCA nationals this February.

VYPE: What are the strengths of your skill set and what did you improve on this year?

MB: I got hurt at the beginning of the season and had a bulging disc in my lower back, so I didn’t get to do a whole lot this season but once I got to come back to cheer, I feel like my motions definitely improved from last season.

VYPE: What makes Broken Arrow HS a great place to be a student-athlete?

MB: The teachers and coaches are willing to help you work to improve if you need it in any area.

VYPE: Which teammate impressed you this season?

MB: Haleigh Thayer. Haleigh is an All-Star cheerleader and has never done high school cheer until this year and she has done amazing. She learned what Gameday means to BA and did so amazing learning the ways of BA.

VYPE: How do you mentally prepare yourself for competition?

MB: I go over the routine in my head a couple of times and then actually walking through the motions. I also listen to worship music and pray to help calm my nerves and give me peace of mind that I can do this routine!

VYPE: What do you love most about your teammates?

MB: What I love how close we are. I have never been on a team that’s been this close, and we all have the same drive and want to win and that’s what makes this team so special to me.

VYPE:What’s the goal for life after high school?

MB: To attend the Oklahoma State University and get my degree in psychology and my minor in early childhood.

VYPE:Who inspires you?

MB: It’s just too hard to pick one person who inspires me because there are so many people that I look up to, but I definitely would have to say my teammates inspire me the most.
