Noah Garrison is a freshman at Vanguard Academy in his first year of varsity swimming. Noah started swimming competitively in January of 2024. We caught up with Noah to find out how his first season was going and what events he is swimming this year.

VYPE: Noah, what events are you competing this year?
Noah Garrison: My favorite events to swim, and that I usually get put in, are the 100 freestyle and the 100 breaststroke.

VYPE: What have you enjoyed about being part of the team? 

NG: I like the atmosphere the most. You can’t resist laughing when our team is joking around.

VYPE: What has made BAHS a great place for you?
NG: BAHS is great because I get to have a team that constantly looks out for each other and encourages the team to try their best. To our team, it’s not about winning, it’s about having fun and giving it our all.

VYPE: What have you worked on the most this year?
NG: I have been trying to keep up with one of the seniors, but he keeps improving too! That helps me to make more effort toward becoming a better swimmer.

VYPE: Who keeps everyone laughing and who is the most serious?
NG: I’d say that everyone in the team can be funny at times, but rarely serious. The lighthearted atmosphere on the team brings us together.

VYPE: How do you mentally prepare yourself for competition?
NG: Usually I think of the event, and what I would practice during warm-up. I found that I could use the warm-up time to get a better feel for the pool.

VYPE: You have plenty of time to decide, but what do you think you might like to do after high school?
NG: I’m not sure yet, but it looks like I could find a good job in the STEM field on computers, and I would like to code games in my free time.
