Maysie Childers is a senior at Broken Arrow High School and a member of the varsity softball team. We caught up with the senior to discuss the team and the Class of 2024.
VYPE: Now that you’re a senior and can look back on your high school career, who was a player you remember looking up to and how old were you?
Childers: A player I looked up to growing up was Alexa Romero. She played with high energy which is how I play my game today. I was 11 when I watched her play.
VYPE: What is your favorite thing about being a student-athlete at BAHS?
Childers: My favorite thing about Broken Arrow is being able to fit in since there is so many people. It is easy to make friends and feel like you have a purpose.
VYPE: What song do you think represents the Class of 2024?
Childers: I think “Fun” by the Sun Room represents the Class of 2024 because we are all about having fun and living each day like it’s our last.
VYPE: What was the name of the first softball team you played for?
Childers: The first team I ever played for was the Bratz with Bats. I was three and it was tee ball.
VYPE: Who is your favorite teacher at BAHS?
Childers: My favorite teacher at Broken Arrow is Ms. Dilldine. She is a younger teacher, so she is able to relate to her students more and understand what they are going through. She is one of the most helpful people I know.
VYPE: What is your favorite sports memory at BA?
Childers: My softball favorite memory is making it to the State Championship game in 2022. The whole season everyone thought we wouldn’t even make it to state so to get that
far was amazing.
VYPE: Do you want to play softball in college and what do you want to study?
Childers: I am going to Grayson College in Denison, Texas to play softball and I plan to
study law.
VYPE: Who is the funniest teammate and who is the loudest in the dugout?
Childers: The funniest and loudest teammate is Jessi Pyles. She is always putting a smile on
my face.
VYPE: What message do you want to send to your fellow seniors?
Childers: Do not take life for granted because it is the most valuable thing given to you.
