Broken Arrow’s Maddy Pettus
Maddy Pettus, a senior at Broken Arrow High School, was born in Norman, Oklahoma, but has spent most of her life in Broken Arrow.
The senior is a very active student at BAHS. In the classroom, Pettus said she is works hard to maintain her grades and she is a member of National Honor Society and the Early College High School Program. Her passion is orchestra and playing the violin.
“When I was younger, I started learning the piano after watching my brother practice at home. When I saw my brother playing his cello in Oneta Ridge’s orchestra, I decided I wanted to be like him and join the orchestra. I chose to play the violin,” said Pettus.
As a member of the Broken Arrow High School orchestra, Pettus said she loves meeting new people and being part of a great ensemble.
“I enjoy the diverse community and always being able to meet new people. Being in the Broken Arrow orchestra feels like another home to me, and the friends I make there feel like family,” said Pettus.
Thanks to her hard work in the classroom and in orchestra, Pettus has plans to continue her education in college and continue playing her violin. Which school she attends is still undecided but returning to Norman could be in the cards for Pettus.
Away from school, Pettus said she enjoys spending time playing music.
“My favorite things to do in my free time include practicing my instruments and hanging out with my friends,” said Pettus.
Pettus and the members of the Broken Arrow orchestra will host their Fall Concert on Nov. 10th before the Regional String Orchestra contest on Nov. 15-16th at Edmond Santa Fe High School. The All-State Orchestra is set for Jan. 18-20th. For more on the Broken Arrow orchestra, visit www.brokenarroworchestra.com
