Throughout their career, an athlete will invest a lot of time and effort in order to reach their fullest potential. Cameron Surles is a golfer at Broken Arrow High School. Not only has he worked hard, he has also seen the fruits of his labor.
“It has taken a lot of hard work while also sacrificing a lot, and never settling,” Surles said. “I always want to get better. I think the highlight of my career would be regionals last year gaining medalist honors where I ended up in fourth. I was leading for almost the entire day, barely falling short. It felt really good to see it was possible for me to compete.”
Cameron is in his senior year at Broken Arrow High School. Along with being a part of the golf team, he is also a member of the National Honor Society and he is in advanced leadership.
While Surles and his teammates face a number of different teams throughout the season, he says that there is one team that he considers their rival and always enjoys beating.
“For us, I think Jenks is the rival,” he stated. “We went head to head in 2022 to take the conference title over them. It was a great win.”
There are those that have made an impact on Cameron’s life and helped him become who he is today.
“The biggest influence on my life is my mom,” he said. “It is because of the sacrifices she has made for my family. The teacher that has had the biggest impact was Alex Cochran, who was my leadership teacher in tenth grade. He now no longer works at Broken Arrow.”
Playing for the Tigers and representing his school is not something that Cameron takes lightly. He also says that he is glad to be able to play alongside some really great teammates.
“It means a lot to me to be able to represent our school,” he said. “I want to make my teammates proud, so all of our hard work pays off.
