Zoe Linhares, a passionate high school student from Broken Arrow High School, has been positively impacting her local Future Farmers of America chapter. Currently serving as the Broken Arrow FFA Treasurer, Zoe’s journey in FFA began in December, and she has since become an active member with an impressive list of accomplishments.
Zoe’s involvement in FFA has been diverse, ranging from participating in various Career Development Events (CDE) such as livestock judging and public speaking to showing pigs during the spring and summer. When asked about her most influential mentor, Zoe mentioned Sara Marlow, the past chapter president, who not only supported her but also guided her through her FFA journey.
“I have many friends within FFA but my biggest mentor is our past chapter president Sara Marlow who also showed pigs and has helped me through every step.” Linhares said.
Throughout her time in FFA, Zoe’s favorite teacher, Mrs. Dupree, played a pivotal role in her life. As her current agriculture teacher, Mrs. Dupree became a mother figure to Zoe and many others in the chapter. She provided unwavering support, always willing to answer any questions, and has been a great influence on Zoe’s personal and FFA life.
“She is always there to help and has become a mother figure to me and many others in my chapter,” Linhares said. “She will always answer any question and has been a great influence.”
Zoe’s hard work and dedication have led her to significant achievements within the FFA. Notably, she won third place in a speech contest for prepared public speaking, earned seventh place in the Tulsa State Fair pumpkin decorating contest, and secured the prestigious position of treasurer within the FFA chapter.
Beyond accolades and accomplishments, being involved in agriculture has taught Zoe valuable life lessons.
“Being involved in agriculture has a great influence on my everyday life,” Linhares said. “The main thing I can take out of it is to never give up. You are not going to win everything you compete in.”
As she plans her future after high school, Zoe aspires to attend Oklahoma State University and major in agriculture education, driven by her love for agriculture and desire to pass on her knowledge and passion to future generations.
