Just as he was about to tee it up for his final season of high school golf, Gabe Replogle saw play suspended for the spring of 2020 by Covid. The cancellation of the season left the Broken Arrow graduate eager to begin play on the college level at Northeastern State University.
“I was very excited to get to NSU and start playing golf again,” said Gabe, now in his junior year. “I knew about the success of the program and wanted to be a part of the continuing success.”
Replogle’s success was evident as he earned his position on coach Scott Varner’s scorecard as a freshman playing in all but two events finishing with two top ten leaderboard finishes. Fast forward to 2023 and Gabe continues taking aim for the greens with NSU golf, something that he refers to as his family.
“The golf teams, men and women, are close knit. You could say we’re a family.”
The family environment according to Replogle includes an extended group of relatives.
“As a student athlete, I feel like everyone here is family. Students and faculty all willing to go out of their way to help one another,” he said with appreciation as he continues to pursue his degree in Business Administration. “The schedule for a college golfer requires mental toughness and time management. You have to stay positive, both on an off the course.”
Gabe had been told by his grandfather (Leonard Poplin) and his brother (Cade) who played college baseball and found their dreams at NSU, that the people-helping- people spirit would always lend a helping hand.
“That’s an area where my instructors have been a great help for me. They do it because they want to see every student obtain their degree and achieve their dreams,” said Gabe.
Replogle, who calls himself an outdoor guy, enjoys the total college experience at NSU.
“It’s a great place for me. I like the small-town environment and for sure the extras available in Tahlequah including hunting, fishing and of course spending time on the Illinois River.”
Add it all together, and just like Gabe Replogle, you can discover your dreams everyday as part of the family at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah.
